Dr. Vladis Kosse

Restructured and redeveloped all units related to Mechanical Engineering Design with the emphasis on Design for reliability and Engineering Creativity. Pioneered in Australia full-scale teaching of the Ideation/TRIZ Methodology (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) to engineering students and introduced teaching of Innovative Work-Bench problem solving software package (IWB) developed by the Ideation Int. Inc. (USA). Published course notes for all subjects listed above. Introduced teaching of Condition monitoring at the undegraduate level. Developed one of the best in Australia Design Studio equipped by the state-of-the-art mechanical equipment.

Initiated the application for a Large ARC grant “Development of a Theoretical Basis, Computer models and Test facilities for the Design and Manufacturing of High Torque Harmonic  Drives”  (co - applicants:  Prof. J.Mathew,  and  Mr. A.Shrivastava).  The application reached the final stage and was ranked by international referees as “high priority” and “high theoretical and engineering relevance”. Personal ranking of the applicant’s track of research records was “excellent”.

Initiated and won in 1998 on a competitive basis the cross - campus grant “Modelling the dynamics and condition monitoring of compliant rotary transmissions”. Dynamic properties of cyclodrives were investigated. New types of torque holding devices for shaft mounted transmissions were developed.

In 1999 received an “Undegraduate laboratory upgrade grant” to re-equip the Design Studio In the School of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Medical Engineering, QUT, as well as the Small Teaching Grant for the development of the Website for teaching mechanical design.

In 2002 received the Innovation in Teaching Award for innovative teaching of Mechanical Design
