INTRODUCTION
This course for non-specialists requiring an introduction to potential hazards when dealing with chemicals. Every effort is made to simplify the presentation by minimising the use of scientific terms and by providing real life examples.
After outlining chemical properties of a wide variety of substances found throughout industrial processes details are given of:
- storage facilities, design so as to comply with legal requirements
- precautions to be taken when handling chemicals and related substances
- Techniques aimed a minimising the risk of exposure, personal protective equipment and methods for treating chemical releases.
