SpecLink now includes PerSpective®, the industry’s first and only commercially available database of performance-based specifications. Performance-based specs are used during the early building design stages and for projects delivered via the design-build method.

The SpecLink database is organized on three tabs: PerSpective, Short Form, and SpecLink, which are connected by "intelligent" links. The tabs correlate to the major phases for building design and construction. The three tabs' intelligent linking feature causes specification decisions made at each phase to pre-select text for use during subsequent phases, facilitating improved coordination and significantly minimizing editing time.
PerSpective, Short Form, and SpecLink are sold either independently as stand-alone modules (catalogs) or as a fully-functional interactive group so you can purchase the pieces that meet your particular needs.

The PerSpective tab comprises performance-based specifications, used at the earliest project stages before building design begins. Selections of materials made via PerSpective specifications are linked to the Short Form tab.

The Short Form tab consists of abbreviated material used to communicate material and systems choices to the owner during the schematic and design development phases. Selections made using this tab are linked to the SpecLink tab.

The SpecLink tab is used to produce detailed construction documents. It also creates automatic administrative reports, such as submittal requirements, useful during construction administration.
 

BSD SpecLink® Performance Specifications

BSD PerSpective Performance Specifications are performance-oriented project descriptions that define the building performance requirements early in the project, before the facility has been designed.

Approximately 150 sections (individual documents) with a Uniformat-style organization are used to specify the design criteria for buildings of many types. These specs are often referred to as "whole-building" performance specs because they describe the performance of built elements (including the building as a whole) rather than the performance of individual materials or equipment.

These Performance Specifications are used by architects, owners, and design-builders to:

Establish design criteria before the design is begun.
Facilitate early decision-making; obtain consensus or agreement.

Communicate material and equipment decisions before beginning construction documents.
Avoid prematurely detailed drawings.

Transmit information to other members of the team -- owners, design-builders, estimators, construction managers, lenders, etc.

Prepare RFPs and proposals for design-build projects.
Document design criteria in writing for later commissioning activities.
